Daily Prompt: Quote Me

Daily Prompt: Quote Me

Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you?

Of course I do, this is a blog that has it’s own page dedicated to Aphorisms!

But the one I always come back to is not one I can take credit for – it is the Serenity Prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.

The original is attributed to Reinhold Niebuhr (wikipedia):

God, give me grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the Wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen.

Here is another one I should, uhm, remember more often:

Good Morning, This Is God!: I will be Handling all Your Problems Today. I Will Not Need Your Help — So Have a Good Day. I Love You!

Title of a book by Joyce Meyer

And then there is the one that I remember and try to live by daily:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

In looking at these, I have come to the conclusion that the reason why I return to them is that they encourage acceptance, tolerance and fair dealing.  Not a bad threesome to have at the forefront of my mind!  Thank you Daily Prompt!

I love it, I say this prayer on a daily basis. I call it my prayer of senility.

Doesn’t that just say it all?

I noticed you did the Polar Bear Swim on New Year’s Day. I did a firewalk (http://wp.me/p2zGQ7-OD) in the very early am of New Year’s day. Maybe we should trade places for next year?

      Hi Gail

The Joyce Meyer book can be found on Amazon. I first learned of the “quote” when my mom bought me a small framed version. It sat on my nightstand. Not a bad thing to wake up to or go to sleep to either!

If Amazon doesn’t work, try the PaperbackSwap site (http://wp.me/p2zGQ7-2N) it is a great way to get books for basically free.

      Happy New Year!

Thank you so much! I am reading her book now called Hearing from God (actually rereading it a second time)! I also have three of her devotionals that I try to read every day.

I think I used the Serenity Prayer as my senior quote, the golden rule has been with me since I was a child and the Joyce Meyer one was a gift from my mom and her way of saying “See, you can’t do it all by yourself, and that’s ok”.
